Avant Garde Dance: Romeo & Juliet

For Remarkable Productions, we designed an A3 poster, a full page advert for Southwark News, and two e-flyers (long and short), for Avant Garde's August production, set in the streets of north London.

The Boy Who Climbed Out of His Face

FivetoNine were commissioned at the end of May by production company Managing Mayhem to produce the publicity design for Shunt Theatre Co's new show for The Jetty on Greenwich peninsula. Having seen Shunt's marvellous show Money in a Bermondsey warehouse some years ago, we felt very excited to get to work with them. But we did not actually meet them at all until after a lot of work had already been done on two briefs provided by Managing Mayhem who were liaising between the company and the promoter (developer Knights Dragon via intermediary Future Cities).

A third and final brief was provided in the middle of June, which was to portray the jetty in the context of a winding river reaching as far upstream as the Tower of London, based on illustration styles provided by Managing Mayhem. FiveToNine worked hard to fulfill that brief, arriving at the following design.

The theatre company had other ideas which we would have been happy to pursue, but we were asked to continue with this illustration to completion. When it was submitted at the end of June we were told Shunt had done their own design in the meantime and ours would not be used.

A little disappointed, having worked long hours and weekends and a total of 136 hours, we duly invoiced, offering a large discount to bring the payment down by 42% to our original quote for a single brief (although there had been three different briefs in all), in the hope of prompt payment.

Update 17th September: This invoice has still not been honoured some two and a half months later.
